UPDATE: I have an Etsy shop! Come and check it out HERE!
It all started on my honeymoon back in 2007. I was in Ikea and decided that I couldn’t live without the candle chandelier. It sat in a closet for over 7 years because I could never figure out a way to use it without making my ceiling black. We never had a great spot to hang it and so it never got unpacked.
But I couldn’t let it go.
Then I saw a post about creating a solar light chandelier on this blog. What a brilliant idea!
And so began the search for a solar light that would fit into the 10 candle holders on my chandelier.
Most solar lights are surprisingly huge! Finally I found the perfect globe lights. I took them home and realized that the ‘stem’ for the light was too long once I had pulled the bulb portion out of the posts that go into the ground.
It was a good thing too, because once it got dark I realized that these were no regular white light solar bulbs. These were rainbow-flash-through-the-night bulbs. It would have looked like I was hosting a disco party in my yard every night!
Finally today I found them! The perfect solar lights. And they were on sale, marked down from $2.50 to $1.30 a piece. I’m sure they go for even less at the end of the season but I decided that my wait was over and bought them right away.
I removed the ground post from the bulb portion of the light
I removed the 10 candle holders from the chandelier (they screw into the wire frame) and glued each solar light bulb into a candle holder.
I put it all back together and voila!
This baby is now hanging outside in a tree in the backyard. I’m hoping once it get’s dark it will look as amazing and romantic as I imagine it will.
Love, Lou
P.S. Don’t forget to turn on the solar lights before you put them into your chandelier (mine had on/off switches inside the bulb just beside the LED).
Great idea, Louisa! I’m looking forward to reading your blog!
